Where can you watch the high-budget series and is it available on Netflix? The new rendition of Shogun made its streaming debut this week.
Shogun, a novel by James Clavell, debuted in 1975 and sold millions of copies all over the world before going on sale.
The epic story of Pilot-Major John Blackthorne and his assimilation into the hardships and unrest of medieval Japan is what is described as The first book of Clavell’s wildly successful “Asian Saga,” which eventually consisted of six books, was Shogun.
In 1980, the book was turned into an acclaimed nine-part mini-series that starred the likes of Richard Chamberlain, Toshiro Mifune, and John Rhys-Davies. While now it has been split into 10 parts for a brand-new adaptation, which is already receiving positive reviews.
How to watch Shogun – is it on Netflix?
In the US, the first two episodes of Shogun debuted on Hulu and FX on February 27, 2024. The following eight episodes will now drop weekly on those same channels.
Shogun airs on Star+ in Latin America, and Disney+ in other territories. Meaning Shogun will not be streaming on Netflix.
This is how FX describes the new adaptation: “Shōgun is set in Japan in the year 1600 at the dawn of a century-defining civil war. Lord Yoshii Toranaga is fighting for his life as his enemies on the Council of Regents unite against him, when a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village.”
