The first trailer for The Marvels trailer comes with a simple message: this film is going to be enjoyable. Marvels trailer And our second look at Marvel’s upcoming film, a bright, funny, cosmic frolic with a catchy fundamental idea, doesn’t appear to change that impression. While it’s presumably a Captain Marvel sequel, the film also stars Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers, Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan (of Ms Marvel fame), and Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau (who gained cool powers during WandaVision). And by ‘teaming up,’ we mean having them swap locations around the galaxy, with catastrophic results. View the most recent Marvels trailer.
This one seems like it’s going to be a blast, and there’s more information to go off on this look. For one thing, we get to see more of Zawe Ashton’s villain Dar-Benn, who appears to have a quarrel with Carol herself and is suspected of being behind the Carol-Kamala-Monica switcheroo. Plus, as Monica points out, our trio of heroes share a common strength in that they are all (kind of) light based. Could their powers have descended from a same source? We also get more Nick Fury, with Samuel L Jackson’s spy (who is presently combating renegade Skrulls in Secret Invasion) fighting alongside Kamala, a glimpse of some terrifying Kree warriors, and the most significant news of all: are those… baby Flerkens?
The Marvels is directed by Nia DaCosta, who was previously responsible for the recent Candyman sequel. The official summary is as follows: “Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers, has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and exacted revenge on the Supreme Intelligence.” However, unanticipated consequences force Carol to bear the burden of a destabilised reality. When her responsibilities take her to an anomalous wormhole connected to a Kree revolutionary, her talents become entwined with those of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. As ‘The Marvels,’ this odd three must band together and learn to work together to rescue the universe.”
Pending any release date shifts due to strike action, The Marvels is expected to arrive in UK cinemas on 10 November. Just enough time to create your own Kamala Khan-esque Captain Marvel cosplay.
