Taylor Swift is unable to stop shattering her own records. Following Spotify’s announcement on Friday that “The Tortured Poets Department” had become the first album in the DSP’s history to receive 200 million streams in a single day, the news was updated early on Saturday, with the announcement that, after everything was taken into account, first-day streams had exceeded 300 million.
“History created!” the business tweeted. “Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department became the first album in Spotify history to surpass 300 million plays in a single day on April 19, 2024.”
Swift’s announcement to her drowsy fan base barely two hours after “The Tortured Poets Department” dropped at midnight ET, that she was adding 15 tracks to the previously released 16 for a 31-song deluxe digital version, did not harm in amassing these figures.
Prior to the release of the new album, Swift was the record holder for the most streaming in a single day, with 2022’s “Midnights” and 2023’s “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” setting the prior records.
With the release of “Poets,” Swift became the most streamed artist in Spotify ever in a single day, according to reports that surfaced on Friday. When “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” was released in October of last year, she previously smashed the record for the most streams in a single day for artists.
Just one day before to the album’s release, “Poets” became the most pre-saved album in Spotify history on the Countdown Page. This created a somewhat less spectacular record for her.
