Early in 2024, the low-cost Nothing Phone 2a is expected to go on sale. This is all the information you need about it.
Nothing about Phone 1, the company’s debut smartphone, caught people’s attention. What makes the phone stand out from its competitors is its transparent appearance and bright LED lights. The most recent Nothing Phone 2 has much improved specs while retaining almost the same look.
The current Nothing phones are good choices for anyone looking for mid-range phones. But the business headed by Carl Pei is about to release the Nothing Phone 2a, a more affordable smartphone.
The phone will go hand in hand with the Nothing Phone 2 and the soon-to-be Phone 3, just like Google’s Pixel 7a goes well with the more expensive Pixel 8 and 8 Pros. There are rumors that it has a 120Hz AMOLED display and a MediaTek CPU.
With a new camera module and fewer LED lights than its more costly brothers, the Nothing Phone 2a may appear very different.
Everything we currently know about the Nothing Phone 2a is included below, including information on its estimated release date, pricing, and specs.
Nothing Phone 2a: Rumored release timeline
Nothing has officially announced its upcoming Nothing Phone 2a. However, the release date of the device is also anyone’s guess at the moment, with rumors suggesting a launch sometime in February.
A more precise release date is provided by leaker Yogesh Brar, who states that Nothing intends to launch the smartphone during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. The yearly occasion takes place from February 26 to February 29. During this period, the Nothing Phone 2a might be released if the sources are accurate.
Nothing Phone 2a: Estimated price and availability
The Nothing Phone 2a is supposed to be a scaled-down version of the Phone 2. Although Nothing hasn’t officially confirmed the device yet, an X post from the company’s CEO, Carl Pei, suggests a “new phone” will launch in 2024.
It’s safe to say that the Phone 2a will cost less than the $600 Phone 2. A recent leak from reputed tipster Roland Quandt revealed Phone 2a’s base model would be priced below 400 Euro. This might suggest the phone could start at around $400 in the US.
If true, this would make the Nothing Phone 2a a serious competitor to the Samsung Galaxy A54. The upcoming OnePlus 12R might also be impacted.
Nothing Phone 2a will reportedly come in two memory and storage options. These could be 8GB+128GB and 12GB+256GB combinations.
According to SmartPrix, the Nothing Phone 2a will be offered in black and white color options. The smartphone will reportedly be available in Japan, India, Europe, and global regions. While the report doesn’t explicitly mention the US, “Global” might suggest the phone is headed to the States as well.
Nothing Phone 2a: Design and display
What distinguishes Nothing smartphones is their design. The company’s founding goal was to “make tech fun again,” and with its offerings, it has succeeded in this endeavor to some extent. With an LED light interface and a semi-transparent rear, the Nothing Phone 1 and Phone 2 have a unique design.
The next Nothing Phone 2a may not deviate too much from the business’s current design ethos. It may not, however, have the same appearance as the current Nothing phone.
The Phone 2a’s schematics were recently seen in a video that leaker Dylan Rousell uploaded on X. The video demonstrates how the Nothing Phone 2a’s back will be changed to include a circular camera module.
The phone may have two horizontally placed cameras that are reminiscent of older handsets we’ve seen, such as the Samsung Galaxy S10.
Nothing seems to have reduced the intensity of the LED lights either. The Phone 2a appears to contain just three of the 32 LED lights on the rear, known as the Glyph Interface, that are present on the Nothing Phone 2.
Some renderings, like the one we’ve shown above, are circulating on the Chinese social media platform Weibo and provide a clearer picture of what the Phone 2a may look like.
However, the Phone 2a’s display may still resemble that of the Phone 2. According to SmartPrix, who cites well-known tipster Kamila Wojciechowska, the smartphone would have a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1084×2412 pixels of resolution.
Nothing Phone 2a: Expected camera sensors
Nothing Phone 2a could have a decent camera setup, according to a report. The smartphone could come with a dual camera setup similar to the Nothing Phone 2.
SmartPrix says the camera hardware includes a 50MP Samsung S5KNG9 1/1.5″ main sensor, teaming up with a 50MP Samsung S5KJN1 1/2.76″ ultrawide camera. Meanwhile, on the front, the phone is expected to rock Sony’s 32MP IMX615 shooter. Nothing Phone 2 and even the Phone 1 has a similar camera setup.
