Apple iPhone 16: Revealed specifications, expected cost, and more

Even though the iPhone 16 is still months away, there are a lot of leaks and speculations already. All the information you want on Apple’s next smartphone is provided here.

In September 2023, Apple revealed the iPhone 15 series, which had several new features. More improvements were made to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max versions than to the non-pro devices. The new A17 Pro processor and titanium turned become the iPhone 15 series’ key features.

There may be even more improved features in the future iPhone 16 series. Even if the official release date is still pending, leaks and speculations already offer us a decent sense of what to anticipate from the next generation of iPhones.

Apple may increase the screen sizes of the Pro variants and redesign the four iPhone models. Along with improvements in display technology, the iPhones could have a new processor.

If the speculations about the iPhone 16 are accurate, it will also have better camera performance and be packed with AI technologies. The rumored pricing, release date, and other details of the iPhone 16 series are all included here.

iPhone 16 release rumors

The iPhone 16 is anticipated to launch in September 2024.Apple never deviates from its plan when releasing new iPhone models. On September 12, 2023, the iPhone 15 was released; on September 16, 2021, the iPhone 14 was unveiled; and on September 14, 2021, the iPhone 13 became available. Therefore, it’s quite possible that the iPhone 16 will be released in September 2024. Apple hasn’t officially disclosed the precise date, though.

iPhone 16 price speculation

Nikkei Asia reported that the production costs for the iPhone 15 were higher than those of last year’s iPhone 14 models. However, Apple absorbed these increased costs to maintain the same prices as the iPhone 14 series. The company may pass on this price increase to consumers with the iPhone 16 lineup.

For reference, the base model of the iPhone 15 in the US starts at $799, and the iPhone 15 Plus starts at $899. The iPhone 15 Pro kicks off at $999, while the top-of-the-line iPhone 15 Pro Max costs $1,199.

iPhone 16 design & display

2024 may mark significant developments for the iPhone. The “capture button” may be a new button that Apple adds to its devices. The capture button is expected to be located on the right side of the gadget, beneath the power button, as per a prior report.

It has been rumored that Apple shifted the mmWave antenna to the left in order to accommodate the new button. The action button on the iPhone 16 could also have solid-state technology, which was previously speculated to be present on the iPhone 15.

The standard iPhone 16 may get a redesign, maybe drawing inspiration from the iPhone X, which has vertical camera lenses like the iPhone 12. It is unknown if this design change will apply to the iPhone 16 Plus as well.

Several claims, one of which comes from tipster Majin Bu, indicate that the Pro models will also get redesigns. According to Bu, there may be a new triangular camera module with fused camera sensors on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. Nonetheless, proceed with caution with this leak.

According to MacRumors, the screen size of the Pro iPhones could grow. The iPhone 16 Pro Max may have an even larger display, measuring 6.85 inches (rounded to 6.9 inches), than the iPhone 16 Pro, which is expected to have a 6.27-inch (rounded to 6.3-inch) display.

Apple may potentially use new micro-lens technology into the panel to save battery usage and increase brightness.

iPhone 16 camera specs speculation

The cameras on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to see no major changes. The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, on the other hand, could see big improvements.

They could have a 48-megapixel ultra-wide lens upgrade, which would allow for better photos even in low light. A 5x telephoto lens, which is now exclusive to the Pro Max variant, may also be added to the iPhone 16 Pro.

There have also been rumors circulating about an iPhone 16 Pro Max with a “super telephoto periscope camera,” implying that the phone will have a greater zoom capacity.

iPhone 16 rumored specifications

All four iPhone 16 models are expected to get new chipsets but they’ll not be the same. The Pro models are expected to be powered by A18 Pro based on TSMC’s 3nm process node. It’s too early to tell what kind of improvements it will bring over iPhone 15 Pro’s A17 Pro chip.

The chip situation is quite confusing for the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, though. The smartphones could use an A17 chip manufactured on TSMC’s inferior N3E process. This could help Apple keep the costs in check.

However, analyst Jeff Pu says the non-pro iPhones will be powered by an A18 chip with one less GPU core than the A18 Pro chip.

iPhone 15 in all colors

The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are said to include Wi-Fi 6E, while TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the iPhone 16 Pro models will gain new Wi-Fi 7 technology. However, the RAM on the non-Pro iPhones may be increased to 8GB.

It’s possible that the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus’s battery capacity won’t change from the iPhone 15 series. Nevertheless, stacked battery technology may be used in the iPhone 16 Pro models, which might result in a larger capacity and longer longevity. Additionally, they could have 20W MagSafe and 40W wired charging, which would be quicker.

Numerous AI technologies are expected to be included in the iPhone 16 series. According to reports, Apple plans to integrate Generative AI into Siri, and further AI technologies may follow. In this aspect, Apple is committed to keeping up with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. The next iPhone models will be powered by iOS 18, which according to Bloomberg is one of the largest iOS upgrades to history.

Is the iPhone 16 series worth waiting for?

As we previously stated, 2024 may be the year when the iPhone undergoes a transformation. If the speculations about the iPhone 16 lineup are accurate, this will be a big update. It is still anticipated that the non-Pro iPhones would only get subpar upgrades.

If you are using one of the newest iPhones, you might want to hold off and see what’s coming next. The iPhone 15 models should be taken into consideration by older iPhone owners. They have very little to lose.
