Multiple changes, including quicker charging, new colors, and updated connectors, have been outlined in fresh iPhone 15 leaks. Let’s dissect them.
The most significant iPhone 15 rumor comes from 9to5Mac, which claims that with the switch to USB-C, Apple will equip the iPhone 15 range with charging speeds of up to 35W. While still slower than many Android competitors, 35W charging would represent a 40-50% boost over the iPhone 13 (23W) and iPhone 14 (25W), as well as a 30% increase over the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 Pro Max (both 27W).
What results will this have in practice? iPhones normally take two hours to completely charge, however the 45W Galaxy S23 Ultra takes half that time. So a 30-minute save appears to be very feasible. It has to be observed whether Apple enhances the range’s rapid charging (0-50% in 30 minutes).
My main reservation about this leak is that it may not apply to the entire spectrum. According to previous rumors, only iPhone 15 Pro versions would have high-speed Thunderbolt 4 data rates (40Gbps/40,000Mbps) through its USB-C connections, while ordinary models will only have Lightning’s ancient USB 2.0 capability (480Mbps). Limiting faster speed and billing rates to Pro versions might be an effective upsell strategy.
According to MacRumors, iPhone charging cords may also be redesigned. According to leaker Kosutami, Apple is working on braided USB-C cables that will match the iPhone 15 range in color.
According to Kosutami, the cables will be available in white, black, yellow, purple, and orange. The latter appears to be a hint to the first orange iPhone, a long-desired choice among Apple fans, but Kosutami warns that the orange may be more pink than orange. Earlier this year, Apple debuted color-matched MacBook charging cords.
