Deadpool and Wolverine recently shattered their greatest box office record to date.

Deadpool & Wolverine has already smashed numerous box office records, but it now broke the most significant one by defeating Joker, DC’s antihero spinoff about Batman.

In and of itself, the storyline of Deadpool & Wolverine’s theatrical run is an engaging one. The film has broken numerous box office records and has even eclipsed The Passion of the Christ to become the highest grossing R-rated film in US history.

However, it doesn’t end there. Deadpool and Wolverine have broken Joker’s treasured record for the highest-grossing R-rated movie globally, as Marvel revealed in a new video.

The two movies are already the only R-rated pictures in the top 50 highest-grossing movies of all time, making them already anomalies on the list (2023’s Oppenheimer just makes the cut, falling just short of Alice in Wonderland’s $1.02 billion box office total.)

However, Joker turned out to be an unexpected R-rated hit, propelled by a grassroots fan movement that helped the film soar to an unexpected box office success. With a $1.07 billion box office haul, it easily dethrones The Dark Knight Rises as the 37th highest-grossing movie of all time.

Marvel claims that Deadpool and Wolverine have now surpassed Joker, who had been securely seated at the top since 2019. According to Deadline, Deadpool & Wolverine brought in $1.085 billion at the movie office on Thursday.

Given its steady ticket sales since its July 26 premiere, it was predicted that Deadpool & Wolverine would beat Joker, even though there was a little decline in its second week of sales. The question now is how long it will stay in that position.

Joker: Folie à Deux, the Joker sequel, is already garnering positive reviews from critics and will hit theaters in October. Although it is anticipated that Joker 2 will maintain its box office supremacy, some have expressed concerns about how the film’s jukebox musical style may impact its results.
