Zootopia 2 is now in development, and Disney is prepared to “Try Everything.” Here is everything we know so far, including the cast, premise, and release date.
Disney’s Zootopia is a highly anticipated picture from their recent slate of releases. Although some viewers may find its message a little archaic, a sequel is now under development.
Along with a number of other sequels and announcements, Disney CEO Bob Iger recently said that a second Zootopia film was now in development.
But does the film have a release date, cast, or plot? Well, here’s everything we know so far, so carry on reading to find out.
Is there a Zootopia 2 release date?
Disney has confirmed that Zootopia will release in 2025, but there is no firm release date.
It can also take a few years until the film is released, given that it was only recently announced.
On the other hand, we can forecast. Given that Zootopia took two years from announcement to release, Zootopia 2 may be released in 2025.
Additionally, it is still unknown if the sequel will have a theatrical release or if it will just be available on the Disney+ streaming service, as has been the case with other previous Disney movies.
Zootopia 2 cast: Who will appear in the film?
As of now, no cast has been confirmed for Zootopia 2. However, we can perhaps expect these faces – or rather, voices – to make an appearance again:

Sadly, Tommy Lister will not be returning to voice the fox Finnick, as the actor passed away in 2020. It’s not yet clear if he will be replaced or if the character will be scrapped.
Directors of the first film, Byron Howard and Rich Moore, have expressed interest in a sequel, as Moore told Collider in 2016, “It would be nice to revisit it again.” Therefore, we can expect their return for the sequel.
Zootopia 2 plot: What will happen in the film?
So far, nothing official is known about the plot of Zootopia 2. However, we can imagine that the film will continue the story of Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde as they work in the police force of Zootopia.
Current affairs will probably have an impact on the direction that the buddy-cop sequel goes. Through the metaphor of many animal species coexisting, racism and prejudice were explored in the first movie, and throughout the last seven years, these themes have only become more pressing.
Disney will undoubtedly find it difficult, but not impossible, to tackle the topic of two police officers who battle with discrimination in their community, given the recent focus on police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement. All we can do is wait and see where the tale goes.
