You may be wondering if there will be a second season of Beef after its huge triumph at the 2024 Golden Globes. What you need to know about the rumored upcoming installment of the popular Netflix series is provided below.
The Netflix original series Beef, which was produced in association with A24 Studios, centers on the lives and relationships of Ali Wong’s Amy Lau and Steven Yeun’s Danny Cho as they become themselves in a dispute that escalates out of control.
The 10-episode series stars Joseph Lee, Young Mazino, David Choe, Patti Yasutake, Maria Bello, and Ashley Park in addition to Wong and Yeun as the main protagonists.
At the 2019 Golden Globe trophies, the Netflix series scored big, taking home trophies for outstanding Television Limited Series, Anthology Series, and Motion Picture Made for TV. Lead actors Yeun and Wong both received awards for outstanding performance by an actor or actress in a limited series. It raises the question, therefore: will there be a sequel?
Will there be a Beef Season 2?
Beef Season 2 has not been announced by Netflix, but creator Lee Sung Jin certainly has some big ideas if the show were to return.
“We always pitched the season to buyers as an anthology series,” Jin stated in an interview with Deadline during the most recent Golden Globes. There would inevitably be new characters. It’s essentially up to Netflix whether it stays restricted, becomes an anthology, or continues to exist. I’m prepared, though, regardless of what they decide.
Jin has previously stated to The Hollywood Reporter, “I’d love to make more.” At first, we proposed the program as an anthology series in which each season features a fresh cast of individuals and a new feud.
On the other hand, I adore Danny, Amy, George, Paul (Young Mazino), and the universe we made. I’m thus genuinely up for anything. Above all, I genuinely want to continue working with this team, with whom I’ve grown deeply in love. However, without a writers room and any kind of momentum, it’s difficult for me to predict which way we’ll go, so I sincerely hope the AMPTP gets smart.
Jin told Rolling Stone, “I wanted it to have a conclusive feel just in case, but there are a lot of ideas on my end to keep this story going,” despite the finale’s neat little bow.
“I believe there are several avenues for Danny and Amy to go forward, should we be fortunate enough to have a second season. I currently have three seasons planned out in my thoughts, however I have one extremely large general idea that I can’t really express yet.
In an interview with Elle, he said, “There is sort of a close-ended quality to the tale [of Danny and Amy] since we did propose this program as a limited anthology. But naturally, I’d want to go more into them if I had the chance since I adore Danny and Amy as characters. However, this is a closed-ended story by design.

Netflix usually waits at least a month before renewing a show, but it has a reputation for being a little erratic with this regard. This gives Netflix time to evaluate those all-important first 28 days.
In the end, the statistics will matter: how long was it in the top 10 chart? Do the income and watching statistics surpass the production costs? All of these inquiries can be addressed by Netflix; when it does, we’ll make sure to update this page.
One thing is for sure: Beef has been well received by reviewers and the entertainment community.i.e. declaring it to be “the best Netflix original show in years.” “Beef has all the teeth of today’s most withering social satires, and more perspective and wit than most ‘eat the rich’ thrillers,” Inverse noted in another place.
But because of accusations made against cast member David Choe—which you can read more about here—the program has become entangled in controversy. It remains to be seen if this has affected a renewal.
Who could star in Beef Season 2?
Although creator Lee Sung Jin made it clear that he hopes that Cho and Yeun will return in Season 2, no casting has been confirmed as of this writing.
According to a new report by Deadline, the second season of Beef may feature two feuding couples. Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny are being eyed to play one couple, while Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway are reportedly the top choices to play the other couple.
For now, though, since a second season has not been officially confirmed, it’s unlikely any casting decisions will be announced soon.
