One of Pixar and Disney’s greatest blockbusters from 2015 was Inside Out. Riley, a little girl who is forced to travel to San Francisco, experiences anthropomorphized emotions in this coming-of-age drama that makes her sadness take control and makes Joy look small in comparison.
Anger, fear, and disgust attempt to hold things in check after Joy, Sadness, and Riley’s innermost happy memories are destroyed. Riley’s tale is continued in Inside Out 2, where she has grown older and is transitioning into a young adolescent.

Inside Out 2 is currently set to release on June 14, 2024. This will make it Pixar‘s 28th animated feature film.
Inside Out 2 plot: What’s the movie about?
Moving on from the first movie, Riley faces a new phase in her life: being a teenager. Teenage years can be tricky as Inside Out 2 will explore some of her newfound emotions, like anxiety.
Details about the plot were first teased at the D23 Expo, with the first teaser confirming anxiety as one of the new emotions. Fans are well aware that being a teenager can be one of the more complex times in life between figuring out who you are, school, friendships, and more. Joy, anger, fear, disgust, and sadness are in for a rude awakening to what being a teenager is all about.
“Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out 2 returns to Riley’s mind just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions!” is the official synopsis provided by Disney. When Anxiety appears, the emotions that have long been in charge—Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust—don’t know how to react. And it appears that she is not alone herself.
Director Kelsey Mann promised in an interview with Total picture that the follow-up isn’t a money grab, saying they “wouldn’t do another movie unless we knew we had a good story to tell: the best sequels don’t just repeat the last film.”

Poehler hinted at this in a previous interview with Variety: “[In the movie] Riley’s growing up… she’s turning into a teenager. Do you recall the moment when you had a lot of thoughts and emotions and you asked yourself, “Who [am I]?” I predict that a great deal of fun will be had.
“I think we’re going to explore, in many ways, the idea that in order to live a curious and beautiful life, one must learn to be flexible and to learn how to make friends with the things that are inside their heads.”
