Here is all the information we currently know about Season 5 of the popular thriller series You on Netflix, including the cast, trailer, and storyline.
Hi there, you. Based on Caroline Kepnes’s book series, the Netflix series You has been gaining popularity worldwide since its 2018 premiere and has continued to grow with each new season.
The first part of Season 4 completely changed the plot; not only was Joe not the primary murderer this season, but he now had a stalker of his own. But Part 2 gave the entire series a surprising new direction, and it left Joe Goldberg in an intriguing position moving forward.
With the fourth season ending in such a shocking way, what direction will the series take? Will there be a Season 5, and what could even happen in it?
Will there be a You Season 5?
Yes! You has been renewed for a fifth and final season and it will hit Netflix in 2024.
Executive producers Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter stated that they “always conceived it as a five-season journey” when the show’s renewal was announced today, March 24.
For the fifth season, Sera Gamble, the showrunner, will be leaving. “I’m incredibly grateful to co-creator and all-around genius Greg Berlanti, Caroline Kepnes, my friends at Berlanti Productions and Alloy Entertainment, and our steadfast partners at Warner Bros and Netflix as I step back from day-to-day showrunning to focus on new projects,” she said on Netflix.
“Making the show alongside our writers, producers, directors, cast and crew has been an honor and ridiculously fun. And I feel lucky to have worked with an artist as gifted and thoughtful as Penn Badgely.
“I’m proud of what we’ve all accomplished and feel privileged to pass the torch. I’m excited to watch and support the You team as they bring Joe Goldberg’s journey to its delightfully twisted conclusion.”
Is there a You Season 5 release date?
As of writing, there is no exact release date for You Season 5.
Given that the SAG-AFTRA strikes are still going on, it’s likely that work on the newest season could be delayed, However, as we have been given the year 2024, we can still hold onto hope that we don’t have to wait too long to see the conclusion to Joe’s killer tale.
You Season 5 trailer: Is there a trailer?
There is currently a teaser trailer for the final season, which you can watch below:
The teaser doesn’t contain any new promotional material; instead, it repeats “Hello, You” menacingly until Joe’s famous inner monologue, “Goodbye, You,” appears at the end.
While lacking original video, a Tudum teaser still hints at the conclusion, saying, “Joe’s past always has a way of sneaking up on him.” Who will it be this time? is the question. Take a look at it below:
You Season 5 cast: Who is starring next season?
Currently, we only have two actors that we can definitely expect to return for Season 5. These actors are Penn Badgley as Joe Goldberg, and Charlotte Ritchie as Kate Lockwood/Galvin.
Every season, Joe is usually surrounded by a fresh group of people, thus the cast will probably be completely new. However, because this is the last season, some familiar figures could potentially make an appearance.
The actress who portrays Nadia, Amy Leigh-Hickman, has already expressed a desire to return, saying, “I would love to come back and play her again,” to Digital Spy. “I don’t think there’s anything she couldn’t achieve if she can do what she accomplished in season four. I wouldn’t put anything beyond her, and I wouldn’t put anything past Joe either. Oddly enough, I believe that they share that in common.
The actress who plays Marienne, Tati Gabrielle, expressed her desire to go back to Digital Spy: “I would love to come back again.” She still doesn’t seem to have received her fair share, and I do believe that she deserves it. Man, she’s had a difficult life. All she needs is a vacation. I hope Marienne gets to see more. I only want her to be present if she isn’t involved in stopping Joe.
You Season 5 plot: What will happen next season?
Showrunner Sera Gamble had previously teased an exciting Season 5 plot, telling The Hollywood Reporter: “We have an idea for season five that we’re excited about.”
“The conversation we have among the writers, between Greg and I, and a lot with Penn is about the fact that it would be nice to end his arc with some form of justice. Guys like this don’t usually see a lot of justice from the world. That’s challenging to plot. How does Joe Goldberg go down in a world where he’s been branding people with bricks in broad daylight for years?
“Plus, he’s adorable! And he escapes punishment for it. In the writers’ room, we usually pose the more profound query, “What is real justice?” What would most harm him?
Since Joe was back in New York at the end of Season 4, everything might potentially come full circle. As Gamble stated to The Cut, “We always understood that he would be much more in the category of folks he used to observe from a distance, but that we wanted him to go back to New York, have a homecoming, have his true name, remove his beard, and look like Joe Classic. He now has practically limitless resources. Strong individuals behind him, and he feels much less conflicted about his actions in private.
Many characters from the cast, including Beck’s former buddies, Paco, his former neighbor, Ellie (who was supposed to return in Season 4), Marienne, and even Nadia (though she is now incarcerated), might make a cameo.
The future of You, according to Penn Badgley, will center on his rise to power and whether or not he gets justice. He said as much in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter: “I think he actually can go to a new place, and if and when it happens, it’ll probably be this spectacular resolution that everybody’s hoping it could be, because now he has further to fall.” The stakes are great, and he has power. He is no longer just a random individual.
Speaking about Joe’s most recent fixation, Kate, the actor said that she was the last significant relationship he will ever be in. There won’t be another one soon, in my opinion.Yes, I believe she is his ultimate goal.
Joe appears to have found acceptance in Kate, which might lead to an intriguing dynamic in the show’s future. If it ever comes to that, we’ll just have to wait and see how it turns out.
