Here’s all you need to know about the actors of Beef, whether you’re rewatching the Netflix series or seeing it out for the first time. Beef won many Golden Globes at the 2024 event.
A24 maintained its winning run in 2023 after its amazing triumph at this year’s Oscars with The Whale and Everything Everywhere All at Once. The production company’s TV programming is particularly popular with Netflix subscribers.
The topic of beef is just that—beef, but not the meaty sort. In the program, a road rage incident sparks a conflict between two people that takes over their lives and destroys their relationship.
Proving to be everyone’s binge-worthy Netflix obsession last year, we’ve broken down all of the major roles in the cast of Beef including the actors and the characters they play.
Beef cast and characters
Though the plot centres on its two main leads, there are plenty of important characters to take note of in the show, which is described in the official synopsis as a “darkly comedic and deeply moving series.”
We’ll take a look at the rundown of the main cast and characters in Netflix’s Beef below.
Steven Yeun: Danny Cho
Danny Cho, the main character played by Steven Yeun, is described as “a failing contractor with a chip on his shoulder who goes head-to-head with Amy Lau.”
“Danny is someone who’s trying to do a good job and do what he thinks he’s supposed to do, but from his eyes, it just seems like the world is out to take him down, and I can relate to that,” the actor stated in reference to the role.
Yeun became well-known for playing Glenn Rhee in The Walking Dead. Since then, she has starred in other films, such as the drama Minari from 2020 and the thriller Burning from 2018. Additionally, he has been cast in the forthcoming Thunderbolts movie from Marvel.
Ali Wong: Amy Lau
The female character, Amy Lau, played by Ali Wong, is a self-made entrepreneur with a lovely life who is Cho’s adversary on the road.
However, as the actress put it, “I think what really resonated with me was the rage that these two characters feel, especially for Amy, whose life is so seemingly perfect.” Things go wrong for the character. You just never know what goes on in a person’s mind or personal life.
Wong is most renowned for her ability to make people laugh when performing stand-up comedy, as shown in her 2016 Netflix special Baby Cobra.
Joseph Lee: George Nakai
George Nakai, Amy’s emotionally distant husband and the son of a prosperous designer, is portrayed by Joseph Lee.
Beef’s outfit notes reveal that Lee has an excellent sense of style even if George’s attire was well chosen. It was “hard to tell which he was wearing when he came out of his trailer” because of how much of it there was.
In addition to his love of all things fashion, Lee is a talented artist who debuted as an actor in the 2018 thriller Searching.
Patti Yasutake: Fumi Nakai
Amy frequently compares herself to Fumi Nakai, the mother of George, played by Patti Yasutake, because of her successful upbringing.
Fans of the Star Trek franchise will undoubtedly be familiar with the name since the actress played Nurse Alyssa Ogawa in the series.
Young Mazino: Paul Cho
The elder brother of Danny, Paul Cho, is portrayed by young Mazino. He is more physically strong than his brother but is “unable to mentally or emotionally dominate” him.
“Most guys who work out to that degree would puff out their chests, but Paul doesn’t carry himself that way,” the actor adds of his persona. He spends much of his time slumped over. He minimizes himself.
Despite having had professional training in music, Mazino has always had a passion for acting and has recently embarked on a number of roles, including that of Prodigal Son on Fox TV.
David Choe: Isaac Cho
The elder cousin of Danny and Paul, Isaac Cho, is portrayed by David Choe as a “small-time criminal” with the gift of gab.
Choe is a multi-talented artist who excels in journalism, music, and painting.
Maria Bello: Jordan Forster
Jordan Forster, portrayed by Maria Bello, is a second affluent lady whose home renovation firm Forsters is vying to acquire Amy’s plant business.
Bello is a well-known actor from television series like NCIS and Law & Order: SVU, as well as motion pictures including A History of Violence, Coyote Ugly, and Lights Out.
Ashley Park: Naomi Forster
Ashley Park portrays Naomi Forster, a stay-at-home mother and Jordan’s sister-in-law. Amy is envious of Ashley’s lifestyle, but Ashley is insecure and lonely.
In addition to her Broadway performances, the actress is widely known for her all-singing, all-dancing character in Netflix’s Emily in Paris.
