Somehow, there are rumors that John Wick 5 is being developed. Yes, Baba Yaga could survive to fight another day, and we have all the details you want on the cast, release date, and possible developments for John Wick 5.
The franchise that never ends is John Wick. Every time the main character believes he’s finished, it looks like more villains need to be kicked in the ass, and he’s more than willing to give them one.
The series opened with a resentful widower, forced out of retirement due to his puppy’s death (the final present from his deceased wife, no less) and the theft of his beloved automobile by Russian thugs. The ensuing rampage exposed us to The Continental and the High Table, the intriguing, custom-governed worlds.
The sad tale of John Wick also gave rise to the Keanussaince and the greatest action franchise of the twenty-first century. Here’s what we know about John Wick: Chapter 5 since the audience was left wanting more after the shockingly moving and depressing conclusion of the fourth chapter.
Is John Wick 5 happening?
John Wick: Chapter 5 is in development, with Chad Stahelski currently cooking up a story, but it’s unclear when it’ll ever be released.
In an interview last year, Stahelski told Empire Magazine: “I honestly don’t know. Lionsgate is keen on doing more John Wick stuff, understandably. It’s not a bad thing for a director to have a property that they want to make more of. I don’t have a take right now. But I could wake up tomorrow and have a cool idea that I’d pitch to Keanu, or he would pitch to me, and it might hit that chord of, ‘Oh my God, we got to do this right now.’
“Now that we’ve finished the four and the circle, so to speak, I think the series has a pretty good conclusion,” he said. The rival, or the actual director inside of me, says, ‘F**k it, let’s just see if we can accomplish it.’ It has a lot of attraction. I simply don’t know the “why” yet. However, that doesn’t imply we should give up searching.
In an October 2023 interview with Inverse, Stahelski said he was no longer entirely opposed to the notion.
“Behind me, I have a ton of sh** notebooks—John Wicks 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. We can’t stop coming up with ideas. Simply put, the plot isn’t locked in. Bringing back John Wick for a cash grab is not something I’m interested in doing. Do I like this character? Naturally.
And it would be fantastic if I directed a few John Wick films. If we had a compelling narrative, Keanu would do one again in a heartbeat. That is left open-ended. I’m sure the studio would be thrilled to hear that we have more.
Franchise producer Basil Iwanyk provided a more promising update in November 2023, teasing to Screen Rant: “If there is another John Wick movie, which I do believe there will be, we don’t know what it is yet, but I do believe.”
As of November 12, 2023, a script for John Wick 5 is being written.
Recently, Ian McShane was questioned in an interview with ScreenRant about the possibility of a fifth chapter coming to fruition. “As long as he wants, I think Keanu deserves a good rest,” he remarked.
“I talked to him the other day; after all the abuse he’s had from assassins worldwide over the past ten years, he’s taking a little break. Since I’m his father and he’s the vampire, let him sleep wherever he is until he chooses to emerge from the tomb once more. I am Vlad the Impaler, then. [Giggles] This could be the basis for a whole horror movie. Anything may enlarge into a different picture. There are no guidelines.
Is there a John Wick 5 release date?
No, John Wick 5 doesn’t have a release date right now. If we were to put an estimation on it, we reckon we’ll be waiting until 2026 at the earliest for this movie.
Regretfully, it seems probable that moviegoers will have to wait a few more years to see a major John Wick film return to theaters. The next big priority for this world is, after all, the Ana de Armas-led spin-off Ballerina, whose release has been pushed back a year to 2025 for reshoots.
As you are aware, Ballerina will be the first spin-off to launch [in 2025]. That much is official. In May 2023, Lionsgate CEO Joe Drake stated, “We’re in development on three other [Wick projects], including five and including the television series, The Continental, which will be airing soon.”
“We’re building out the world and when that fifth movie comes, it will be organic — will be organically grown out of how we’re starting to tell those stories. But you can rely on a regular cadence of John Wick.”
Given these comments, it’s clear that John Wick 5 is on the slate of projects from this world, but it’s also fair to assume that it’ll be released no earlier than 2026. However, we’ll be sure to keep you updated if any more specific release date timelines are revealed.
John Wick 5 cast: Will Keanu Reeves be back for the new movie?
Despite the way chapter four leaves the character, you would assume that John Wick 5 will feature Keanu Reeves in a leading role.
The possibility that John Wick 5 is being developed may delight fans, but it may also cause some uncertainty. After all, it appeared as though the titular hero had finally met his demise at the conclusion of John Wick 4.
John Wick’s tomb was even visible to us. It’s likely that John Wick 5 would examine the possibility of Baba Yaga staging his own demise, since it wouldn’t be wholly implausible given the franchise.
This suggests that Reeves will probably make a comeback in John Wick 5. In addition, Ian McShane, who plays Winston, the owner of Continental, and Laurence Fishburne, who plays the Bowery King, are probably going to make a comeback. However, as of the time of writing, all of this is just conjecture and hearsay.
As director Stahelski teases to Empire Magazine, “dead” might not be an option for John Wick: “You know, we’ve seen John take worse injuries.”
“I don’t know, I guess I’m going to have to lean on never say never. I mean, I wouldn’t do a John Wick film without Chad Stahelski. We’d have to see what that looked like. For me, it feels really right that John Wick finds peace,” Reeves told EW.
Although it’s possible that performers and characters from The Continental may make an appearance, Lance Reddick, who tragically passed away during shooting, will not be making a comeback.

John Wick 5 plot: What will the movie be about?
If John Wick 5 is to follow any kind of logical path, the story will have to explain just how John is still alive after seemingly dying in the previous instalment.
As previously discussed, John Wick 4’s conclusion gives the impression that the character has finally met his end. That doesn’t mean, though, that he can’t return and find more victims to trample and horses to ride through towns and highways.
Nonetheless, Chad Stahelski, the director of John Wick, has some thoughts about what he hopes to see in the upcoming chapter. “I could wake up tomorrow and have a cool idea that I’d pitch to Keanu [Reeves], or he would pitch to me, and it might hit that chord of, ‘Oh my God, we got to do this right now,'” Stahelski stated in an interview with Empire.
“I would want to perform the scenarios and action sequences that I have in my imagination but we haven’t used yet. We cannot simply return and go on in the same manner. I have homework to complete. I have to become better,” he continued.
Regarding a follow-up film, producer Basil Iwanyk told Screen Rant, “I do feel like it will be a completely different book.” You could sort of blame the metaphor for these movies being four chapters long. There will be another novel after John Wick. John Wick 4 won’t come out six months later.
