Here is all the information we currently know about Keanu Reeves’s Baba Yaga’s return from John Wick 5, including any updated release dates. The film is currently under development.
The story began with a resentful widower who was forced to come out of retirement after being killed by Russian thugs who stole his beloved automobile and his dog, which was his wife’s final present to him. We were first introduced to the intriguing, custom-governed world of The Continental and the High Table during the Baba Yaga’s rampage.
It not only started the Keanussaince, but it also gave rise to the greatest action franchise of the twenty-first century, raising the bar and quality with each new release. For crying out loud, take a look at John Wick 4, which has a top-down dragon’s breath set piece that was influenced by Hotline Miami and the Hong Kong Massacre.
Here is all the information we currently know about John Wick: Chapter 5, which concluded with a shockingly moving and serious tone in the fourth chapter.
Is John Wick 5 happening?
John Wick: Chapter 5 is in development, but it’s unclear when it’ll ever be released.
Stahelski said to Empire Magazine in an interview from the previous year, “I honestly don’t know.”It makes sense that Lionsgate is eager to produce more John Wick content. A filmmaker who wants to produce more of a property is not inherently bad. As of now, I have nothing to say. However, I may wake up tomorrow with a brilliant idea that I would present to Keanu, or he would present it to me, and it might strike a chord that says, “Oh my God, we have to do this right now.”
“Now that we’ve finished the four and the circle, so to speak, I think the series has a pretty good conclusion,” he said. The rival, or the actual director inside of me, says, ‘F**k it, let’s just see if we can accomplish it.’ It has a lot of attraction. I simply don’t know the “why” yet. However, that doesn’t imply we should give up searching.
In an October 2023 interview with Inverse, Stahelski said he was no longer entirely opposed to the notion.
“Behind me, I have a ton of sh** notebooks—John Wicks 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. We can’t stop coming up with ideas. Simply put, the plot isn’t locked in. Bringing back John Wick for a cash grab is not something I’m interested in doing. Do I like this character? Naturally.
And it would be fantastic if I directed a few John Wick films. If we had a compelling narrative, Keanu would do one again in a heartbeat. That is left open-ended. I’m sure the studio would be thrilled to hear that we have more.
Franchise producer Basil Iwanyk provided a more promising update in November 2023, teasing Screen Rant: “If there is another John Wick movie, which I do believe there will be, we don’t know what it is yet, but I do believe.”
As of November 12, a script for John Wick 5 is being written.
Recently, Ian McShane was questioned in an interview with ScreenRant about the possibility of a fifth chapter coming to fruition. “As long as he wants, I think Keanu deserves a good rest,” he remarked.
“I talked to him the other day; after all the abuse he’s had from assassins worldwide over the past ten years, he’s taking a little break. Since I’m his father and he’s the vampire, let him sleep wherever he is until he chooses to emerge from the tomb once more. I am Vlad the Impaler, then. [Laughs] This could be the basis for an entire horror movie. Anything may enlarge into a different picture. There are no guidelines.
Is there a John Wick 5 release date?
No, John Wick 5 doesn’t have a release date right now.
Sadly, it is likely that fans will have to wait at least a few more years before they see a mainline John Wick movie back in theatres. After all, The Ana de Armas-led spin-off Ballerina, which is set to place between Chapters 3 and 4, is currently due for release on June 7, 2024.
“What is official is that, as you know, Ballerina is the first spin-off that comes out next year. We’re in development on three others, including five and including the television series, The Continental, which will be airing soon,” Lionsgate boss Joe Drake said in May 2023.
“We’re building out the world, and when that fifth movie comes, it will be organic—organically grown out of how we’re starting to tell those stories. But you can rely on the regular cadence of John Wick.”
Given this, it’s fair to assume that John Wick 5 will be released no earlier than 2025. However, we’ll be sure to keep you updated if any more specific release date timelines are revealed.
John Wick 5 cast: Will Keanu Reeves be back for the new movie?
The possibility that John Wick 5 is being developed may delight fans, but it may also cause some uncertainty. After all, it appeared as though the titular hero had finally met his demise at the conclusion of John Wick 4.
John Wick’s tomb was even visible to us. It’s likely that John Wick 5 would examine the possibility of Baba Yaga staging his own demise, since it wouldn’t be wholly implausible given the franchise.
Given this, it seems likely that Reeves will return for John Wick 5. As well as this, Ian McShane and Laurence Fishburne will likely return as Continental owners Winston and Bowery King, respectively. However, this is all simply rumors and speculation at the time of writing.
As director Stahelski teases to Empire Magazine, “dead” might not be an option for John Wick: “You know, we’ve seen John take worse injuries.”
“I don’t know; I guess I’m going to have to lean on never say never. I mean, I wouldn’t do a John Wick film without Chad Stahelski. We’d have to see what that looked like. For me, it feels really right that John Wick finds peace,” Reeves told EW.

John Wick 5 plot: What will the movie be about?
As previously discussed, John Wick 4’s conclusion gives the impression that the character has finally met his end. That doesn’t mean, though, that he can’t return and find more victims to trample and horses to ride through towns and highways.
Nonetheless, Chad Stahelski, the director of John Wick, has some thoughts about what he hopes to see in the upcoming chapter. “I could wake up tomorrow and have a cool idea that I’d pitch to Keanu [Reeves], or he would pitch to me, and it might hit that chord of, ‘Oh my God, we got to do this right now,'” Stahelski stated in an interview with Empire.
I would want to execute the scenarios and action sequences that I have in my thoughts but we haven’t used yet. We cannot simply return and go on in the same manner. I have homework to complete. I must improve.
Regarding a follow-up film, producer Basil Iwanyk told Screen Rant, “I do feel like it will be a completely different book.” You could sort of blame the metaphor for these movies being four chapters long. There will be another novel after John Wick. John Wick 4 won’t come out six months later.
