Godzilla has returned to the Monsterverse in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, but how old is the legendary lizard?
One of the most well-known creatures in film history, the reptile mutant has caused complete destruction, radioactive nightmares, and some amazing on-screen battles. Although it’s common knowledge that Godzilla has existed for a long time, how old is he exactly?
This scaled monster has been a part of our lives for decades, a true Titan of the movie theatre. In Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, his most recent effort, he makes a comeback to battle with Kong against a brand-new predator.
Here’s what you need to know about how old Godzilla could be.
How old is Godzilla?
Godzilla’s exact age isn’t confirmed in the Monsterverse, but according to most sources, he’s either 300,000 or 250 million years old.
In any case, he is an elderly man! There are many who contend that Godzilla lived during the Permian era and that his individual age dates back around 250 million years. Regardless, contrary to certain sources, like the Dominion comic, it is never claimed that he is younger than 300,000 years old. There is no doubt that his species has a minimum of 250 million years of history.
Although it’s easy to picture him as being about the same age as his on-screen adversary Kong, it would be drastically inaccurate because Kong is said to be between 200 and 300 years old.
Even with his astronomical birthday count, Godzilla is by no means the oldest Titan in the Monsterverse. Methuselah, who is said to be many thousand years older than Godzilla, would take home that honour.
Considering all of this, we may always consider Godzilla to be 70 years old, given that he made his movie debut in 1954.
